Christmas Market at Alexanderplatz
End of November to early January. Around 100 stalls, Ferris wheel, ice rink. Not Berlin's most romantic market (that is Gendarmenmarkt), but the most central and one of the largest. Free entry.
New Year's Eve at the Alex
Known primarily for its private fireworks mayhem. No longer an official event as at the Brandenburg Gate, but the real Berlin experience (with everything that means).
Berlin Oktoberfest
In September/October the Berlin Oktoberfest sets up at the Alex for a few weeks. Not the Munich scale, but beer-tent atmosphere in the capital.
Public viewing at major sporting events
For football World Cups and Euros, the Champions League and the Olympics, the Alex is a Berlin public-viewing hotspot.
